Nagasaki’s Shinchi Chinatown

Nagasaki’s Shinchi Chinatown

Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown is a flourishing neighborhood located in the center of Nagasaki City. Alongside the Chinatowns in Yokohama and Kobe, this is the 3rd largest Chinatown in Japan. At the entrances of all sides of Chinatown (north, south, east and west), there are Chinese-style gates. These gates were built in 1986 by the promotion association of the shopping district. The materials were ordered from Fuzhou City and the construction was done by local craftsmen. Inside the town, there are many Chinese-style restaurants and hotels with good service. If you like shopping, there are plenty of stores with lots of different goods to choose from. Shinchi Chinatown is one of the most popular destinations for tourists, especially for those who are fans of Chinese food or culture. Additionally, Minato Park, located nearby,  is the main venue for the Lantern Festival during the Chinese New Year celebration (the annual Lunar New Year).
