Meganebashi Bridge

Meganebashi Bridge

Meganebashi Bridge is a double-arched stone bridge that crosses the Nakashima River. The bridge has a length of 22 meters. Since the bridge itself and the shadow reflected on the river’s surface create an image that looks like glasses, it is called Meganebashi, translated to Spectacles Bridge in English. This is the oldest arched stone bridge in Japan. It was rated as the top 3 most famous bridges in Japan, next to Nihonbashi bridge in Tokyo and the Kintaikyou bridge in Yamaguchi prefecture. Because there is a ban on vehicles traveling on the bridge visitors can walk freely on it. On the embankment near the bridge, there are about 20 heart-shaped stones. The rumor goes that “the more hearts you find, the better your luck will be to find true love”, so many tourists come here looking for heart-shaped stones making it a romantic place to visit.
